Meet Thomas Beatie: The First Female-to-Male Transgender To Give Birth

Thomas Beatie was born female as Tracy LaGondino in 1974 but she underwent a sexual reassignment procedure in order to become a man. Pregnant Thomas & his first baby Beatie reports he underwent sex reassignment partially because in Hawaii, where he met and fell in love with his first wife, Nancy Beatie, same sex marriage wasn't legal and also says he always felt like he wanted to be a man. When he was in his 20s Thomas Beatie began having testosterone injections, giving him facial hair, a lower voice and altering his sexual organs. Later, he had a mastectomy to remove his breasts, and hormone treatment that gave him an outwardly male appearance. But he chose to keep his female sexual organs so that he and his wife Nancy could have children. They bought sperm from an anonymous donor, Beatie underwent artificial insemination and gave birth to 3 kids.
